The sun was shining down at the Hagerty Family Events Center last Friday for Sports Day! From soccer to nitro ball, to cornhole, to Mario Kart, to pin dodgeball, events took place all over the complex. Ultimately, the Class of 2025 took home the crown in their final Sports Day, knocking off the two-time defending champs the Class of 2026. The juniors earned runner-up honors. A very special thank you to our Sports Day advisors Ms. Beuchert, Mrs. Martin, and Mr. Schreffler for bringing our campus together for this fun-filled day! Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Several Ramblers captured gold, while a few also qualified for states, at the D-10 AA & AAA Track & Field Championships over the weekend! The girls finished third in the AA meet, while the boys took second in the AAA meet. On the girls side, Anne-Catherine Brown won the 3,200, while Zita Schiedel finished fifth and Allison Bender took sixth. Brown also qualified for states in the 1600m with her second-place finish. Bender took sixth in the 1600. The 4x800 relay of Reagan Johnston, Makayla Stutts, Bender, and Fina Bannister also stood atop the podium. Kendal Johnston is also headed to states after her second-place finish in the high jump. Bannister took fifth in the 800, while Stutts followed in sixth. The 4x100m relay and 4x400 relay teams finished seventh. Kayla Bogdanski took fourth in the 400, while R. Johnston finished sixth. On the boys side, the 4x100 relay of Devin Easter, Taijoun Williams, Hunter Sullivan, Brycen Brooks, and Gavin Easter won gold. Ashton Mountain also qualified for states in the long jump with his second-place finish. D. Easter finished third in the 100. He also finished second in the 200, while Sullivan finished third. Williams took fifth. Roman Hamm took second in the 400. Michael McDonald and Declan Toohey finished right behind in third and fourth. Will English took second in the 800. Nick Kupniewski finished sixth. James Burkett took fourth in the 1600 and sixth in the 3200. Hank Partridge finished second in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Brooks took third in the 300 hurdles. The 4x400 relay finished second, while the 4x800 relay finished seventh. Mountain took fourth in the high jump and third in the triple jump. Thomas Shaughnessy finished fifth in the shot put. • Varsity boys lacrosse closed out their regular season with a thrilling 8-7 win over Fairview. Rylan Sorge had two goals and two assists. Lohan Mastrian and Nate Klan each scored twice. Matt Bansidhar and Andrew Timon also scored. Charlie McBrier had three assists. Ian Brown made 16 saves. 🥍
• Boys tennis fell in the PIAA quarterfinals to Wyomissing, 3-2. Gavin Ferretti won in singles, while the tandem of Michael Ferraro/Ty Hulick took their doubles match. 🎾

• Varsity baseball closed out the regular season with a 17-0 win over Erie High. Andrew Costello had two hits, including a three-run homerun, and five RBIs. He also stole three bases. Davin Friedman was 3-3 with three RBIs. Mathius Sprickman drove in four, while Matt Boam had a pair of hits. ⚾
• Girls lacrosse fell to Conneaut, 11-6. Niagara Millen scored four goals. Giselle Hiner and Sarah Snell also scored. 🥍

• Boys tennis moved into the PIAA team quarterfinals with a 5-0 win over South Park. Bradley Ng, Gavin Ferretti and Charbel Moubarak won in singles. Colin Troutman/Cameron Grieshaber along with Michael Ferraro/Ty Hulick won in doubles. 🎾
• For the second game in a row, Derick Friedman went deep in an 8-2 victory over St. Francis. He also struck out six on the bump in six innings for the win. A.J. Sirianni drove in two, while Mathius Sprickman had two hits. ⚾
• Softball blanked Conneaut, 15-0, as Morgan Madura struck out 11 and yielded just two hits. She also hit a homerun and drove in four. Kendyll Steves had four hits and two RBIs. Addison Baldi had three hits and three RBIs, while Avery Pfister and Sophia Montagna each drove in a pair. 🥎

Students in Dr. McLauglin’s Theology III Honors classes roleplayed as different saints at their “Saint Con” last Friday. They stayed in character and explained their virtues to visiting classes of students. There was also a table with relics of various saints and a station for them to write letters of Pope Francis as their saint and offer him pieces of advice for if he would like to become a saint. #Prep #SaintCon ✝

• Varsity baseball turned away Warren, 14-4. Andrew Costello homered, tripled, and drove in four. Derick Friedman hit a three-run homerun. A.J. Sirianni went 3-3. Mathius Sprickman had a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Rob Connor drove in a pair. ⚾
• Boys lacrosse fell to Hickory, 7-6, in a varsity-only contest. Rylan Sorge had two goals and two assists. Rory Callaghan scored three goals. Mike Ferrare also scored. Charlie McBrier and Andrew Timon each had an assist. Ian Brown made 21 saves. 🥍
• Softball dropped their matchup to Northwestern, 19-4.

• Congratulations to Boys Tennis! They captured the District 10 AA title! The Ramblers began the AA tournament with a 5-0 victory over Greenville in the semifinals. Bradley Ng, Gavin Ferretti, and Charbel Moubarak picked up straight-set victories in singles. The teams of Colin Troutman ’25/Cameron Grieshaber and Ty Hulick/Michael Ferraro took doubles. The same team would lead them to a straight-set championship victory over Fairview, 5-0. Congratulations to Coach Grab and the Ramblers! 🎾🏆
• Girls lacrosse beat Fairview, 7-3. Niagara Millen had four goals. Jordyn DiRaimo, Giselle Hiner, and Azlyn Miller also scored. Allison Deiner made 11 saves. 🥍

This kicked off the final month of our seniors Prep and Villa careers as they get set to graduate at the beginning of June. AFJROTC cadets presented the colors at the Erie SeaWolves’ Education Day game at UPMC Park on Wednesday. Our cadets proudly and professionally represented Prep and JROTC in front of thousands of local students while getting to watch an exciting bottom of the 12th walk-off homerun.
