Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, January 9: • Girls basketball took on McDowell in a doubleheader at the Joann Mullen Gymnasium. Varsity bounced back in a big way after suffering their first defeat of the year. They rolled to a 64-23 Region victory over the Trojans. Jayden McBride had 21 points to lead the way. Addie Biel and Tori Mayes each had 12, while Ava Lucarotti had 10. JVs remained undefeated with 43-25 win. Natalie Spano had 18. Leah Major scored eight, while Katherine McCormick finished with seven. 🏀 • Varsity hockey fell to Central Catholic, 5-2. Our First Friday series continued last week at the Hagerty Family Events Center. After Cathedral Prep Chaplain Fr. Jason Feigh celebrated Mass, our guests enjoyed lunch and updates from several members of Cathedral Prep’s administration team. Vice President of Academics and Student Affairs Mr. Will Pituch ’01VMA and Assistant Vice Presidents of Student Affairs Mrs. Veronica Seip & Mr. Rick Herbstritt ’96 shared their insights and experiences throughout the beginning of the school year and the official start of the coed merger. Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Wrestling took second place at the Pin City Tournament at Perry High School (OH). Max Spaulding (215) took first in his class. Amir Johnson (113), Sam Staab (132) and Jaden Crockett (157) took second in their classes. Aiden Carter (106) and Clay Mallory (165) took third, while Brandon Byrd (138) and Xavier Domkowski (144) took fourth. Keagan Oler (120) and Bo Martucci (150) took fifth. Andrew Gammon (126), Owen Shetler (175) and Isaiah Harrick (190) finished seventh. 🤼‍♂️ • Boys swimming took down Canisius (NY), 119-57, at the Hallman Aquatics Center. Mitchell Bradford and Aidan Levis each won four events. Triple winners included Owen Carson and Jack Raimy. Matthew Hinman won two events. Teddy Terrizzi took the diving competition. 🏊‍♂️ • Girls basketball split their doubleheader against WPIAL power North Catholic. Varsity suffered their first loss of the season in a tight battle with the Trojans, 59-57. The Ramblers were led by Jayden McBride’s 25 points. Addie Biel had 19 points, while Lena Walz added 11. JVs remained undefeated with their 47-27 victory. Natalie Spano led Prep with 29 points. Katherine McCormick finished with eight. 🏀 • Varsity boys basketball hosted the BK Classic in the Joann Mullen Gymnasium. They suffered their first setback of the year on Friday, falling to De La Salle (IL), 43-42. Jake Sambuchino led the way with 13 points and seven rebounds. The Ramblers would then fall in the consolation game on Saturday to Canisius (NY), 55-40. Tavion Spencer led the way with 12. 🏀 • Competitive Cheer took part in the District 10 Competitive Spirit meet at McDowell this weekend. They took third in the small school division behind Lakeview and champion Harbor Creek. 📣

Mr. Ng’s CAD classes finished their laser engraving projects. They used Fusion 360 CAD software to design car components. Then, they programmed their design in our laser engraving machine to cut out the parts from a 12”x12” wood block. #Prep #CAD

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Thursday, January 5: • Indoor track & field competed at the Spire Institute in a NEOITC conference meet. For the girls, the 4x800 team of Sarah Clark, Anne Catherine Brown, Allison Bender and Lauren Raimy placed first. Fina Bannister, Regina Torrance, Grace Barrett and Caitlin Dugan took 3rd. In the 1600m, Brown was first, while Bender took second. Kayla Bogdanski took second in the 400m. Raimy took first in the 800m, while Bannister finished second. In the 3200, Clark took first, Brown placed second and Sarah Teed placed third. In the 4x400, the team of Bogdanski, Raimy, Bannister and Clark finished first. One the boys side, Luke Brown took first in the 800 and second in the 1600. 👟

Amir Johnson (121), Keagan Oler (127), Andrew Gammon (133), Sam Staab (139), Owen Shetler (172) and Clay Mallory (189) all had pins for the Ramblers. Aiden Carter (107) and Brandon Byrd (145) also scored decisions. 🤼‍♂️ • Bowling picked up a 16.5-11.5 victory over Erie High. Elena Kacprowicz had the high game of 184 and high series of 529. Kacprowicz and Ava Hensler each earned 4 points by sweeping their opponents. The girls take on Mercyhurst next week. 🎳

Varsity picked up a 61-52 victory over the Royals in their Region opener. Jake Sambuchino led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Amaree Pickens finished with 15 points, while Zion Barksdale had 10 rebounds. JVs picked up a 67-34 victory. Freshmen basketball fell to Hickory, 58-48. KyZir Rowan led the Ramblers with 25, while Natavion Tenon added 15. 🏀 • Varsity hockey picked up a big victory over Canon-McMillan, 6-2. Mathius Sprickman had two goals. Cathedral Prep Holiday Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Wrestling competed in the prestigious Powerade Tournament at Canon-McMillan. Sam Staab (133) finished 4-2 on the tournament, making it to the fifth Consolation round. Xavier Domkowski (139) scored a pair of pins. Kegan Oler (121), Bo Martucci (152) and Jaden Crockett (160) also won consolation matches. 🤼‍♂️ • JV Hockey competed in the 26th annual PA Hockey Scholastic Showcase. The Ramblers finished 3-2 in the tournament. They began with a 7-3 win over Thomas Jefferson. Nico Vavala had a pair of goals. Brady Sack, Rylan Sorge, Braydan McGarry and Tucker Kinnear also found the net. Ian Brown got the win in net. They would fall to North Allegheny, 4-0, before defeating Penn Trafford, 5-1. Ashton Duchini had a hat trick. Henry Fritts and Noah Diley each had a goal. Brown again picked up the win in goal. They defeated Pine-Richland in the semifinals, 8-4. Vavala had a hat trick, while Caleb Dacus scored a pair. Vinny Scalise, Sorge and Braydan Mcgarry also scored. Brown scored another victory in net. The Ramblers fell in the championship to North Allegheny, 2-1. 🏒 • LATE THURSDAY: Boys basketball took on St. Ignatius (OH) in a doubleheader. JVs fell to the Wildcats, 58-49. Varsity captured the Blue Division of the KSA Tournament in Orlando with a 57-47 win over Pingree (MA). Amaree Pickens had 14 points and was named Co-MVP of the tourney, along with Jake Sambuchino who had 11. Tavion Spencer added 12 points for a Rambler team that finished 3-0 in Florida. Freshmen basketball fell to McDowell, 49-40. Owen Haffey and KyZir Rowan each had 14 to pace the Ramblers. 🏀 • Girls basketball swept Fairview. Varsity outscored Fairview 31-5 in the second half to win 52-18. Jayden McBride had 12 points to lead the way. Lena Walz added 11. McKenna Valone and Ava Lucarotti finished with nine and eight, respectively. Prep is 6-0 on the season and will play in the national bracket of the KSA Holiday Tournament in Orlando next week.
