Cathedral Prep Easter Break Athletics Roundup:
• Baseball competed at the Wolves Classic in Arizona, finishing 3-1 on their trip. The Ramblers won their opener, 19-5, over Show Low (AZ). They overcame a 5-2 deficit to get the win. Andrew Costello went 3-3 with a homerun and four RBI. Joey Spano had two hits and three RBI, while Jason Fultz had three hits. Mathius Sprickman went 3 2/3 and struck out seven for the win. They would fall to Rio Rico (AZ) in their second game, 10-8, in 10 innings. Fultz hit a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh after Rio Rico had scored seven consecutive runs to take the lead. Fultz and A. Costello each had three hits. They bounced back and scored 17 straight runs versus Winslow (AZ) to earn a 19-3 victory. A. Costello went 4-4 with six RBI and a homerun. Fultz also had a pair of hits, including a homerun, while driving in three. Nick Jackson had three RBI, while Joe Flanagan drove in a pair. The closed out their trip with a 15-5 victory over Snowflake (AZ). Dan Oblich went 2-3 with five RBI. Sprickman also went 2-3 and drove in three. KJ Williams and Fultz both hit solo homeruns. Fultz also struck out seven on the hill. JVs won their lone game of the trip. They picked up an 8-5 win over Lemont (IL). Sam Ciukaj got the win on the mound. Matt Oblich had three hits and drove in two. Jacob Koshan had two hits and drove in a pair. Joe Flanagan also had a pair of hits and drove in a run. ⚾
• Softball competed in Myrtle Beach over the break. Varsity finished 1-2 on the trip. Their lone victory came in their opener, 11-2, over Egg Harbor (NJ). Madison Simmerman, Paige Simmerman, Mackenzie Moore, Cam Chimera and Addison Baldi all had two hits apiece. Baldi and Moore each drove in a pair. M. Simmerman got the win, going seven innings and striking out nine. They would fall in their second game to East Carter (KY), 13-7. Moore and P. Simmerman each had three hits. Baldi and Sarah Dudenhoeffer each had a pair of hits. Moore and Baldi each drove in three. They closed the trip with a 10-0 loss to defending South Carolina state champions Aynor (SC). P. Simmerman had a pair of hits. JVs went 4-1 on the trip. Their lone loss came in their opener against Boyd County (KY), 20-19. P. Simmerman had three hits and scored three runs. Sophia Primavere had a homerun and a triple. Mya Kaliszewski had three hits. Moore scored four runs for the Ramblers. They bounced back with an 11-1 win over Bay High School (OH). Moore picked up the win in the circle. P. Simmerman, Baldi, Emily Dudenhoeffer, Eva Donikowski and Kaliszewski all had two hits. Kaliszewski also scored three runs. They would go on to earn an 11-0 shutout over Lawrence County (KY). Moore had three hits and drove in two. Primavere had a homerun and three hits. Morgan Madura had two triples. She also got the win, striking out 12. Kaliszewski had a pair of hits and scored three times. Baldi had two hits. They defeated East Carter (KY), 13-10. Primavere went 4-4 with a homerun and six RBI. She picked up the victory in the circle, striking out nine. P. Simmerman, Baldi, E. Dudenhoeffer, and Layla Vander all had a pair of hits. E. Dudenhoeffer drove in two, while Moore scored three times. They closed the trip with a 9-8 win over Aynor (SC). Baldi had three hits and drove in two. Kaliszewski had three hits. P. Simmerman, Moore, S. Dudenhoeffer and Primavere all added two hits. Moore got the win, while Primavere picked up the save. 🥎
• Boys tennis split their matches in Hilton Head. The Ramblers picked up a 7-2 win over Heritage Academy (SC), 7-2. Jonah Ng, Gavin Ferretti, Colin Troutman, and Cameron Grieshaber picked up straight set wins in singles. The tandems of Ng/Ferretti, Grieshaber/James Casella, and Drew Brown/Ty Hulick won in doubles. They would drop their match to the five-time defending South Carolina state champions Hilton Head Prep (SC), 5-4. Ng, Ferretti, and Troutman took singles, while Ng/Ferretti won in doubles. 🎾
• Track & field competed in the South Hills Classic at Baldwin High School. For the girls, Reagan Johnston took fourth in the 400m. Lauren Raimy won the 800m. She also won the 1600m. Anne-Catherine Brown finished second. Brown won the 3200m, while Rue Burkett finished fifth. The 4x400m relay of Raimy, Kendal Johnston, Regina Torrance, R. Johnston took first. For the boys, the 4x100m relay of Devin Easter, David Adams-Prince, Gavin Easter, and Taijoun Williams took sixth. The 4x400m relay of Nick Kupniewski, Drew Johnson, Noah Lata, and Roman Hamm took second. 👟

It is with deep sadness that we inform the Cathedral Prep & Villa Maria Academy community of the passing of Sr. Jean Baptiste DiLuzio ’42VMA, SSJ. Sr. Jean taught at Prep for 25 years, from 1951 to 1976, and was well-known and loved by numerous graduates. She is also a member of the Cathedral Prep President’s Hall of Fame for her dedication and lasting impact on our school community. Sr. Jean also served on the Cathedral Prep board of directors, and volunteered her time at our school, in addition to her teaching career. She also served a variety of institutions in the Erie community and beyond with her teaching, administrative, and volunteer work.

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Thursday, March 28:
• Baseball swept Corry with a pair of shutouts. Varsity won their season opener over the Beavers with a 12-0 win in five innings. Jason Fultz struck out six over three innings. He also drove in two on a double. Dan Oblich went the final two innings and punched out four. Davin Friedman had a three-run triple, while Matt Oblich stole four bases. JVs picked up a 15-0 victory. M. Oblich was 3-3 with three RBI. Sam Ciukaj also drove in three and went 2-2. Nik Malec had two hits and scored three runs. JP Poranski had four strikeouts on the hill. Derick and Da. Friedman both struck out three apiece. ⚾
• Softball picked up their first win of the season with a 16-0 shutout over General McLane. Madison Simmerman hurled a three-inning no-hitter and homered. Paige Simmerman, Addison Baldi and Emily Dudenhoeffer each had a pair of hits for the Ramblers. 🥎
• NEWS: Junior Johnayha Brunson recently took fifth place at the Keystone State Wrestling Championships. Johnayha is the first female wrestler in the history of Cathedral Prep. Congratulations, Johnayha! 🤼♀️
Happy Holy Thursday! Today, during our assembly period, students performed Living Stations of the Cross. Led in prayer by Sammie Elwell ’24, Charlotte Przybylinski '26, and Bella Speros ’26, students re-enacted Jesus’ journey to Calvary, while narrators shared the stories of each station and those who joined him. Laura Morphy ’25 closed with a beautiful dance, symbolizing Jesus’ resurrection, to close the program. We hope to make this a tradition for many Easters to come! #Prep #Faith ✝

The Cathedral Prep Diversity Club sponsored a dress down for Women’s History Month to benefit the Mercy Center for Women. The check was presented to Mrs. Jennie Hagerty, executive director of the center. The funds collected will be used toward food pantry, shelter beds, and educational programming. #Prep #Community
Last Friday, students from the A&EPath and BizPath participated in a lunch & learn presentation with speaker James Vicary. As regional director for NSG Automotive North America, James oversees seven facilities in three countries that produce glass windows, windshields, and sunroofs for vehicles produced across North America. He manages over 4,000 employees and nearly $1 billion in business per year. He spoke to students about the ceramic and glass engineering field, the production of glass, and his journey from engineer to businessman. On Saturday, April 13, Outreach Club is hosting their third annual "Miles for Missions" event at Frontier Park. The event will be held rain or shine with a start time of 9:00 a.m. This is a 5K run/walk with all proceeds being split between Feed My Starving Children and Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network. While registrations will be accepted through the day of the event, signing up by Thursday, March 28, will guarantee a t-shirt with the $25 registration. The event is open to all ages. It is a great family event, with prizes being awarded to both the top male and female finisher, as well as various age categories. Refreshments and snacks will be provided to race finishers, and there will also be a basket raffle at the event for anyone who wants to come and support and not run/walk. Students had the opportunity to attend the Chrism Mass yesterday in Saint Peter Cathedral. This is tradition of the Church where the sacred oils are blessed for the year to be distributed to all parishes. Priests also renew their commitment to priestly service. #Prep #Faith ✝
For the month of March, a group of males came together with Fr. Scott Jabo, director of vocations for the Diocese of Erie, to talk about vocations and the discernment process.
