
Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, October 1:
• Congratulations to the boys golf team! They captured the District 10 AA title with an eight-stroke victory over Saegertown at The Country Club of Meadville. Cooper Wierzchowski led the way with a 74. Connor Laird shot 76, while Sonny Washburn shot 78. Andrew Costello shot 83. Joseph Prichard rounded out the scores with an 87. The Ramblers will play in the PIAA team championships on October 23 at Penn State. Congratulations to Coach Keim ’80 and the team! ⛳🏆
• Hockey picked up a 5-2 over Bishop McCort in their first PIHL game of the season. Tucker Kinnear scored a pair. Mathius Sprick, Ethan Cunningham, and Nick Pugne also scored. Rylan Sorge had three assists, while Ashton Duchini also had a pair. Ian Brown made 15 saves in net for the win. 🏒
• Girls soccer took on Fort LeBoeuf in a doubleheader at Dollinger Field. Varsity took a lead in the Region with their 3-2 win over the Bison. Olivia Dixon scored a pair of goals, while Ava Capozziello had the other tally. JV ended in a tie, 2-2. Capozziello and Amelia Brown scored for the Ramblers. ⚽
• Girls volleyball split their doubleheader with Seneca. Varsity swept the Bobcats, 3-0. Kamryn Resurreccion had 33 assists, giving her 1000 for her career. Coco Speros had six kills. Carolina Krahe had eight kills and seven digs. Olivia Hutchinson had five aces, 15 kills, and five digs. Mackenzie Moore had nine digs, while Kharhys Nickson had eight kills. JV dropped their match in three sets, 2-1. 🏐
• Girls tennis defeated Fairview, 5-0, to clinch the Region title. Paige Patsy, Finleigh Handzel and Sophia Glance won in singles. The tandems of Margaret Prichard/Lilli Beuchert and Katie Kuhar/Eliza Kallner won in doubles. 🎾
• Boys water polo picked up a 17-13 victory over McDowell. Callum Snider-Mills dominated on offense, scoring 11 times. Colin Troutman had a hat trick, while Ely Cooney, Owen Carson, and Thomas Fortin also scored. Dan Kubiak stopped 12 shots. 🤽♂️
• Girls water polo also defeated McDowell, 6-5. The Ramblers scored in the final 40 seconds to get the victory. Rachel Patton scored twice, while other goals came from Alexis Ferrare, Megan Cardella, Savannah Wierzchowski, and Anna Socash. Bri Ryan made 10 saves. 🤽♀️

• Girls tennis defeated McDowell, 4-1. Paige Patsy, Finleigh Handzel and Sophia Glance all won in singles. In doubles, Lilli Beuchert/Margaret Prichard were victorious. 🎾
• Boys soccer swept Girard. Max Johnson set up a pair of goals to Ethan Cain and Esteban Millett as varsity downed the Yellow Jackets, 2-1, in Region action. JV picked up a 4-2 victory. Millett, Aron Nemeth, Nick Keichel, and Will Agresti all scored for the Ramblers. ⚽


Last Friday, Cathedral Prep AFJROTC went on a familiarization flight with the Ohio Air National Guard (OANG) out of Youngstown, Ohio. The OANG brought a C-130 to Erie International Airport and gave the cadets a ride to Sandusky, OH and back. The cadets were allowed to observe the crew in action in the cockpit and in the cargo section of the aircraft. While over Cedar Point, the crew opened the back of the jet and gave the cadets a bird’s eye view of the amusement park. A few lucky cadets were able to sit in the cockpit for takeoff and landing for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A good time was had by all! #Prep ✈

• Varsity boys soccer split their weekend of matchups in Lexington, KY. They dropped a tough one to Frederick Douglass (KY), 2-1. They would bounce back with a big 3-2 victory over Tates Creek (KY). ⚽
• Girls volleyball swept Nichols (NY). Varsity swept the Vikings, 3-0. Kamryn Resurreccion had six aces and 28 assists. Coco Speros had five digs. Carolina Krahe and Ellen Hutchinson had six kills each. Olivia Hutchinson finished with 12 kills. Kharhys Nickson had eight kills while Mackenzie Moore had nine digs. JV also picked up the sweep, 3-0. Jade Adams had 10 aces. Alaina Sambuchino had five aces. Ella Snippert had seven aces, while Gianna Lombardi had five assists. 🏐
• Girls cross country finished seventh in the Premier race of the McQuaid Invitational. Anne-Catherine Brown led the team with an eighth-place finish. Makayla Stutts was 26th. Reagan Johnston finished 47th, while Zita Schiedel took 48th. Sophie Becker finished 103rd. 👟
• Boys cross country also competed at McQuaid. James Burkett placed 15th overall. Noah Lata was 26th. Jeremai Pruzenski, Nick Kupniewski, and Michael Brown helped the squad to an 11th place finish. 👟
• Varsity football lost their first game of the season, 35-21, to St. Francis (NY). Davin Friedman threw two touchdowns, finding Taijoun Williams and Matt Oblich for scores. DaZarie Carson also ran one in. 🏈
• Boys water polo finished 1-3 on the weekend at Beast of the East. The Ramblers dropped their first game to Brunswick (CT), 13-3. Callum Snider-Mills scored a pair. Owen Carson also scored. Dan Kubiak made five saves. They would bounce back with a 13-5 win over Upper Merion. Snider-Mills and Carson had five goals apiece. Colin Troutman scored a pair, while Michael Ferrare also scored. Kubiak made four saves. They would fall to Souderton, 13-7. Snider-Mills had four goals to lead the way. Carson, Troutman, and Ely Conney rounded out the scoring. Kubiak made six saves. They would close their weekend with a tough defeat to Gilman (MD), 13-11. Troutman led with four goals, while Cooney scored three. Snider-Mills and Carson each scored a pair. Thomas Fortin also scored. Kbuiak made seven saves. 🤽♂️
• Girls water polo also finished 1-3 at Beast of the East. The fell to The Hill School, 9-6. Savannah Wierzchowski and Megan Cardella each scored a pair of goals. Alexis Ferrare and Anna Socash also scored. Bri Ryan made seven saves. They would then fall to North Penn, 11-4. Ferrare scored a pair. Kate Patsy and Socash also found the mesh. Ryan had three saves. They would drop their third game to Springfield, 15-8. Ferrare and Cardella each had hat tricks. Wierzchowski and Patsy also scored. Ryan had five saves. They would close the weekend out with a victory over McDowell, 6-2. Ferrare and Cardella each scored a pair. Wierzchowski and Patsy also scored. Ryan made six saves. 🤽♀️
• LATE SCORE FROM WEEK OF 9/23: Girls golf took fifth in the Meadville Invitational. Cece Morgan finished ninth overall with an 88 to lead the way. Clair Williams tied for 11th with an 89. Emily Dudehoeffer tied for 24th with a 95. The girls compete in the District 10 Individual Championship today The Country Club of Meadville. Good luck girls! ⛳

Senior MedPath students were invited to participate in the UPMC Hamot Nursing Symposium yesterday. They were introduced to the look and feel of continuing education credits and professional networking. Students heard life-changing testimonials about the importance of organ donation and heard from Erie’s pioneer kidney transplant team. They took away concrete tools to aid with mental health and mindfulness for those that are tasked with caring for others. #Prep #MedPath

Sophomores were on retreat yesterday at the Hagerty Family Events Center. They spent the day growing in their faith through confession and Mass. • Girls soccer defeated Corry, 10-0, in a varsity-only matchup. Olivia Dixon led the Ramblers with four goals, while Sophia Stinson had a hat trick and an assist. CC Cacchione, Mackenzie Prather, and Jordyn DiRaimo also scored. DiRaimo, Nora Fedor, Haley Stadler, and Kate Toohey each had a pair of assists. Prather also had an assist. Jordan Senz got the shutout in goal. ⚽
• Varsity hockey shutout Meadville, 7-0. Chris Bruschi had a pair of goals. Rylan Sorge, Nick Pugne, Garrett Schwartz, Nick Hoke, and Brady Sack and Brady Sack also lit the lamp. Sorge and Michael Corritore had a pair of assists. Mathius Sprickman, Bruschi, Charlie McBrier, and Austin Edmonds also had assists. Ian Brown secured the shutout in net. 🏒
• Boys golf finished third in their Region match at Whispering Woods. Connor Laird shot a 78 to lead the Ramblers. Andrew Costello shot an 82. Cooper Wierzchowski shot an 84, while Joseph Prichard shot an 85. ⛳

• Girls cross country finished second in a tight race at the PIAA Foundation Race in Hershey, finishing just eight points behind Danville. Anne-Catherine Brown was sixth overall. Fina Bannister was 12th, while Makayla Stutts finished 16th. Zita Schiedel too 22nd. Reagan Johnston finished 35th, while Kendal Johnston was 90th. 👟
• Boys cross country finished 16th out of 30 teams at the PIAA Foundation Race. James Burkett led the squad, finishing 21st out of 224 runners. Noah Lata placed 42, while Nick Kupnieski placed 107th. Jeremai Pruzenski was 142nd. Michael Brown, Joe Dieteman, and Nate Gannoe finished 146th, 163rd, and 192nd, respectively. 👟
• JV football lost on the road at Canisius (NY), 12-3. Sam Leone made a field goal for the Ramblers lone points. 🏈
• Girls volleyball competed at the Massillon Jackson (OH) Invitational over the weekend. Varsity fell in their three matches. They dropped their first game in straight sets to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (OH), 2-0. Kamryn Resurreccion had six assists and digs. Coco Speros had five kills and six digs, while Mackenzie Moore had seven digs. They fell to Strongsville (OH) in their second match, 2-0. Resurreccion had 17 assists. Speros had nine digs, while Olivia Hutchinson had nine kills. Moore finished with nine digs. Kharhys Nickson had eight kills. The Ramblers closed their weekend with a tough loss to Walsh Jesuit (OH), 2-0. Resurreccion had 17 assists and seven digs. Speros and Hutchinson had five and seven kills, respectively. The cadets of Cathedral Prep’s JROTC unit filled in a last-minute request to conduct the color guard at the Erie SeaWolves’ Eastern League Championship playoff game yesterday. The always reliable cadets performed flawlessly for the home crowd and inspired the Seawolves to victory! #Prep ⚾

• Varsity football stayed perfect on the season with a 36-24 victory over Canisius (NY). Davin Friedman threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns. Both of those went to Corey Allen, who had four catches for 130 yards. DaZarie Carson had 79 yards on the ground and a score, while Taijoun Williams ran for a 74-yard touchdown. Cam Christman made a field goal, while Jadon King-Vincent returned an onside kick for a touchdown at the buzzer to seal it. 🏈

Juniors were on retreat at St. Francis Xavier Church yesterday. Seniors led workshops throughout the day of prayer, community building, and service. Mr. Herbstritt began the day speaking to the class, while Chaplain Fr. Jason concluded the day by offering Mass. Congratulations to Maria Costa ’25. She has committed to swim next season on scholarship at Division I James Madison University.
