Ms. Kabasinski’s forensic science students took a trip to the Forensic Investigation Center at Gannon University yesterday. They met with Dr. Theodore Yeshion, Gannon’s professor and program director of criminal justice and criminalistics, and one of his graduate students. They were able to ask questions, take a tour of the center, and participate in a mock crime scene investigation! #Prep #Forensics 🔬

AFJROTC Headquarters conducted their formal Unit Assessment last week. The purpose of this visit was to provide feedback regarding the performance of the AFJROTC unit, and to assess its compliance with Public Law, Department of Defense, and Air Force Instructions. Our Blackbird cadets were awarded an overall “Exceeds Standards” rating. Justin Yochim ’25 and Ryan Noonan ’27 were also presented with the Top Performer Award for their superior performance based on a cadet’s performance in leadership and job performance in preparation for the unit’s assessment and in primary duty. Students in Mrs. Quinn’s AP Calculus classes, along with students from five other schools in Erie County, competed in Gannon University’s ninth annual Differentiation Bee. This year, Hank Partridge ’25, Jonah Bebko ’25, and Laura Hetrick ’25 finished in first place received $1000 Gannon scholarships each. James Burkett ’25, Evan Theisen ’25, and Roger Havyarimana ’25 finished in second place and each received $500 Gannon scholarships. #Prep #DifferentiationBee

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, November 12: • Boys soccer picked up a 4-3 victory over Avonworth in the PIAA AA semifinals. Max Johnson scored a pair of goals to lead the Ramblers to back-to-back state championship appearances. Ethan Cain and Brandon Lin also scored. They take on Northwestern Lehigh in the PIAA AA title game at Eagle View Middle School in Mechanicsburg on Saturday, November 16. Their match is set for 4:00 p.m. ⚽ • For the first time since 2019 as VMA Victors, girls soccer is headed back to the state championship. They defeated Quaker Valley, 1-0, in the PIAA AA semifinals behind a goal from Olivia Dixon and shutout by keeper Jordan Senz. CC Cacchione had the assist. They also take on Northwestern Lehigh in the PIAA AA title game at Eagle View Middle School in Mechanicsburg on Saturday, November 16. Their match is set for 7:00 p.m. following the boys match. ⚽ • With a trip to the state championship on the line, girls volleyball put up a valiant fight against the top team in the state, Corry. After winning the first set 25-12, the Ramblers dropped the second, 25-19. They won the third 25-20 and were four points away from clinching the match, but the Beavers rallied to win the final two sets, 25-23 and 15-8, to end Prep's season. Kamryn Resurreccion had 40 assists and 12 digs. Carolina Krahe had 10 kills and 11 digs. Olivia Hutchinson finished with 21 kills and six blocks. Ellen Hutchinson had five kills and six digs. Kharhys Nickson had nine kills and five blocks. Paige Patsy had 16 digs, while Mackenzie Moore finished with 35 digs. 🏐

On Friday, National Art Honor Society (NAHS) held their annual “Pies and Picasso” event in the Salata Technology & Innovation Center. Angeline Terrizzi ’25, Katie Kuhar ’26, and Sofia Giacomelli ’26 led participants in the creation of a beautiful fall pumpkin patch painting. A large assortment of pies was provided for people to enjoy while they painted. Forty people attended, and NAHS raised $1000, which will help the club pay for their next art museum field trip. Congratulations to Callum Snider-Mills ’25 and Ely Cooney ’26. They were both named 2023-2024 USA Water Polo Academic All-Americans! They were recognized for their hard work in the classroom and in the pool. Student-athletes needed a 3.50 GPA on a scale of 4.0 to qualify. Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program, is celebrated annually from October 23 through October 31. This year’s theme was “Life is a Movie. Film Drug Free!” Students made their pledge last week by signing a banner created by Nhu Tran ’25. #Prep #RedRibbonWeek

Cathedral Prep’s 8th Grade Honors Program students were recognized with a special breakfast ceremony last week! Prep Chaplain Fr. Jason Feigh gave a blessing, and the students heard from President Kevin Smith. Then they received their Honors Program pin and Cathedral Prep school garment. The program includes 53 students from several schools across Erie County. Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, November 5: • Girls soccer advanced to the PIAA AA quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Burrell. Jordyn DiRaimo scored the game-winner for the Ramblers, while Haley Stadler had the assists. Jordan Senz secured the shutout in goal. ⚽ • Girls volleyball came back and defeated WPIAL champion Quaker Valley in a five-set thriller, 3-2. The Ramblers won the fifth set, 15-11. They forced the deciding set by winning the fourth, 33-31. Kamryn Resurreccion had 51 assists and 10 digs. Olivia Hutchinson totaled 28 kills, nine blocks, two aces, and two digs. She also reached 500 career kills! Ellen Hutchinson had 11 kills and 10 digs. Carolina Krahe had 10 kills and 10 digs. Mackenzie Moore had 43 digs, while Kharhys Nickson had eight kills. Today, we welcomed back alumna Hayley Dever ’24 ! A MedPath graduate, she’s now thriving in her freshman year of college! She came to speak with our seniors about the unique advantages she's experienced thanks to MedPath's challenging curriculum. From tackling college-level courses to feeling prepared for rigorous science classes, she shared how MedPath gave her a huge head start. She spoke about the research projects she’s involved in, showing our students that they can dive into exciting fields early on too! Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • ICYMI: Girls cross country captured their second PIAA title in three years. The Ramblers won the PIAA AA title with 118 points, 33 more than Lewisburg. Anne-Catherine Brown placed eighth to lead the way. Fina Bannister was 12th overall. Makayla Stutts took 23rd, while Zita Scheidel finished 37th. Allison Bender took 38th. Reagan Johnston finished 60th, while Sophie Becker finished 78th overall. For head coach Therese Brown, this marked her fifth state championship in the last 11 years. Three won as Villa Maria Academy, and two as Cathedral Prep. Congratulations to Coach Brown and the team on capping off an incredible season with gold!! 👟🏆 • Paige Patsy and the doubles team of Finleigh Handzel & Sophia Glance competed in the PIAA singles and doubles tournaments in Hershey. They swept all their matches in their respective tournaments before both falling in the semifinals. Patsy would win her third-place match over Hamburg’s Mia Gassert, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0. Handzel/Glance would win their third-place match with a sweep over the tandem from Allentown Central Catholic, 6-2, 6-4. Congratulations Paige, Finleigh, and Sophia! 🎾🥉 • Football lost to DuBois, 45-42, in the PIAA subregional. Davin Friedman went 18-27 for 322 yards and four touchdowns. Corey Allen carried the ball 23 times for 161 yards and a score. He also had four catches for 77 yards. Taijoun Williams had 65 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Griffin Potts hauled in two touchdowns, as did Joe Himes and Matt Oblich. Oblich had six catches for 125 yards. The Ramblers closed out their season with a 7-4 record. 🏈 • James Burkett was the lone Rambler to qualify for the PIAA AA Championship for boys cross country. He finished 43rd in in Hershey. 👟 • Boys water polo competed in the state play-in tournament at North Penn High School. The Ramblers had an opening round win over Springfield, 11-9. Owen Carson had the hat trick. Heath Kreidinger and Callum Snider-Mills had two goals apiece. Other goals came from Colin Troutman, Michael Ferrare, Thomas Fortin, and Josh Bartlett. Dan Kubiak had 4 saves. Their season came to an end with a loss to Souderton, 18-7. 🤽‍♂️ • Girls water polo’s season came to an end with a 13-5 defeat to Springfield in the play-in round of states. Megan Cardella and Alexis Ferrare each scored twice, while Savannah Wierzchowski had the other goal. Bri Ryan made 10 saves in net. 🤽‍♀️

Recognizing the need in our community, students recently held a sock drive to donate to GECAC’s warming shelter. Student Council also helped raise funds to donate to GECAC to assist in buying warm clothes. #Prep #Service #Community🧦
