Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Thursday, February 2:
• Congratulations to the Wrestling team! They captured the District 10 AAA championship over McDowell, 37-29. They began the night with a 32-30 win over Hickory in the semifinal. Sam Staab (133), Jaden Crockett (160), Clay Mallory (172) and Max Spaulding (285) all had pins, while Bo Martucci (152) and Isaiah Harrick picked up major decisions. In the championship match, Andrew Gammon (133), Aiden Carter (107), Keagan Oler (121) and Mallory (189) all had falls. Owen Shetler (172) picked up a major decision, while Staab (139) scored a decision. Congratulations to Coach Hahesy and the team! They are headed to Hershey! 🤼♂️🏆
• Indoor Track competed in their third NEOITC Green Division Meet at Spire Institute. Fina Bannister took second in the 400m. Lauren Raimy took first in the 800m, while Anne-Catherine Brown took second. The 4x400m team of Kayla Bogdanski, Caitlin Dugan, Raimy and Bannister took second. The 4x800m team of Sarah Clark, Brown, Allison Bender and Raimy took first. DaMario Crawford took first in the 60m and 200m dash. 👟
• Girls swimming & diving rolled to a 126-23 victory over Mercyhurst Prep. Brianne Ryan took three events. Double winners included Lindsay Armanini, Josie Dufala, Ellie Brugger, Jillian Heinrich and Maria Costa. Angeline Terrizzi took the diving competition. 🏊♀️
• Boys swimming & diving also picked up a big win over Merychurst Prep, 109-32. Matt Hinman won three events. Owen Carson, Callum Snider-Mills, Mitchell Bradford, Clark Brown and Brady Palmer all took a pair of events. Ted Terrizzi won the diving portion. 🏊♂️


Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Wednesday, February 1:
• Girls basketball swept their doubleheader at the Joann Mullen Gymnasium. Varsity handed Punxsutawney their first loss of the season, 52-31. Addie Biel led the way with 19 points. Jayden McBride had 16, while Lena Walz added 11. JVs closed the night with a 42-28 win over Mercyhurst Prep. Natalie Spano led the way with 20. 🏀
• Bowling rolled a league season-high 2511 to extend their win streak to five with a 25-3 victory over Mercyhurst. Captain Elena Kacprowicz rolled the high game of 215 and had the high series with a 566. All six starters earned two or more points for the Ramblers. McDowell is up next with a trip to Regionals on the line. 🎳


AFJROTC cadets spent yesterday educating students from Mother Teresa Academy and Blessed Sacrament on the importance of leadership and being a team player. Cadets performed some of their own drills had students perform American flag folding etiquette. #Prep #AFJROTC

• Boys freshmen basketball fell to McDowell, 59-27. Owen Haffey led the Ramblers with 10. 🏀


Freshmen and sophomore Theology classes had the pleasure of hearing from guest speaker Mrs. Margie Walsh in their classes to kick off Catholic Schools Week. Mrs. Walsh's talk was centered around the Rosary, its history and how to pray it. #Prep #GrowingInFaith ✝



Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, January 30:
• Girls basketball swept Fairview. Varsity defeated the Tigers, 61-31, to get another victory in Region play. The Ramblers led 40-12 at the intermission and were paced by 21 points from Lena Walz. Jayden McBride had 18. With the victory, head coach Doug Chuzie set the school mark for career wins in girls basketball with 267 games won at Villa Maria Academy/Cathedral Prep. Congratulations, Coach Chuzie, on this great achievement! JVs picked up a 51-27 victory. Leah Major had 14 points. Katherine McCormick added 12, while Natalie Spano had 11. 🏀
• Boys swimming handled Warren, 114-48. Triple winners were Jack Raimy and Owen Carson. Aidan Levis, Callum Snider-Mills and Colin Troutman all won twice. Ted Terrizzi won the diving competition. 🏊♂️
• Girls swimming also picked up a victory over Warren, 95-90. Maria Costa won three events. Double winners were Chloe Borrero and Ellie Brugger. 🏊♀️
• JV boys basketball defeated Mercyhurst Prep, 49-38. Max Wallace scored 17 points to lead the Ramblers, while Ben Scheffner added 10. 🏀

Congratulations to John Koshan ‘23. He has committed to play college football next season for Indiana University of Pennsylvania on scholarship. Koshan led the Ramblers in tackles this past season with 90, which included 52 solo stops. He will play linebacker at the next level. #Prep #RollRamblers #StudentAthlete 🏈

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Boys basketball swept Erie High. Varsity completed the season sweep of the Royals with their 53-48 victory. Jake Sambuchino led the way with 19 points. Amaree Pickens and Semontae Lofton each had 12. JVs picked up a 50-26 victory. Cormac Thunell had 20 points for the Ramblers. Freshmen basketball defeated North Catholic, 42-39. 🏀
• Wrestling took part in the Brooke Classic in West Virginia this weekend, finished third as a team. Brandon Byrd (138) took first in his class, while Sam Staab (126), Bo Martucci (150) and Owen Shetler (175) all took second. Keagan Oler (120), Xavier Domkowski (144) and Max Spaulding all took third, while Amir Johnson (113) finished fourth. Aiden Carter (106) and Andrew Gammon (132) both finished sixth. 🤼♂️
• Indoor track took part in the Spire Ohio Preview this weekend. In the boys 200m, DaMario Crawford finished third with a school record time. Luke Brown was sixth in the 800m and second in the 1600m. In the girls 800, Lauren Raimy finished eighth. 👟


Prep AFJROTC was represented by Aliyah Castner ’24 at the American Legion Oratorical contest for Erie/Crawford counties this weekend. She had an outstanding performance in this fierce competition. American Legion Department of Pennsylvania 29th District Commander Michael Cortes '86 presented Aliyah her award. #Prep #AFJROTC


Congratulations to Camariyon Bridges ‘23. He has verbally committed to play college football next season on scholarship at Mercyhurst University. This past season, Bridges made 23 receptions for 466 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns. He will play receiver at the next level. #Prep #RollRamblers #StudentAthlete 🏈

• Girls swimming & diving defeated McDowell, 123-60, to stay unbeaten in the Region. Maria Costa, Ellie Natemeier and Haley Palmer all won four events. Jillian Heinrich won three times, while Ellie Brugger won twice. 🏊♀️
• Boys swimming & diving picked up a big Region win over McDowell, 97-83. Mitchell Bradford and Aidan Levis each took four events. Owen Carson won three events. 🏊♂️
• In a varsity-only contest, girls basketball rolled to a 76-21 win over Erie High. Lena Walz led the way for the Ramblers with 20 points. Addie Biel scored 13, while Jayden McBride added 10. The team ventures to Fairview on Monday. 🏀


We were happy to welcome back former president of Cathedral Prep and Villa Maria Academy Fr. Scott Jabo to celebrate our weekly school Mass along with our chaplain, Fr. Jason Feigh, and Fr. Mike DeMartinis today. While celebrating the memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus, Fr. Jabo talked to our school community about being open to God’s call for vocation to the priesthood, religious life, or marriage, and to pray for others to be open to answering their call as well. #Prep #Faith ✝️

• Wrestling picked up a 42-30 win over Hickory. Owen Shetler (172), Max Spaulding (285), Amir Johnson (114), Sam Staab (133), Bradon Byrd (145) and Xavier Domkowski (152) all had pins for the Ramblers. Keagan Oler (127) and Bo Martucci (160) earned decisions. 🤼♂️
• Bowling rolled into sole possession of first place in the Metro League with an 18-10 victory over Erie High. Elena Kacprowicz led the way with a 519 series and four points. Maja Wasielewski also earned a four-point sweep, while Ava Hensler took three points for the Ramblers. 🎳


Mr. Dale DeMarco ’70 joined Mrs. Oligeri’s Accounting classes today. He spoke to the students about the accounting profession and the roles and responsibilities of an accountant. #Prep #Accounting

Jake Sambuchino and Tavion Spencer each had 10. JVs kicked off the night with a 45-28 victory. Michael Thompson led the way with 11 points, while Max Wallace finished with 10. 🏀
