Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Girls varsity lacrosse continued their winning ways in thrilling fashion. The Ramblers defeated McDowell in overtime, 7-6. Brooke Powers scored three goals, including the game-winner off an assist from Azlyn Miller. Taylor Benacci scored two goals and had an assist. Lilly Blake and Kendall Krahe also scored. Rynette Katen made three saves in goal. 🥍
• Boys tennis picked up a big win over Western Reserve Academy (OH), 3-2. Gavin Ferretti, Charbel Moubarak and Arjun Noticewala all took their singles matches in straight sets. 🎾
• Girls and boys track & field competed in the McDowell Invitational and the City of Hermitage Invitational over the weekend. At McDowell, Shelby Abogunde finished fourth in the 100m and eighth in the 200m. Zita Schiedel took sixth in the 1600m. The girls 4x100m relay took sixth. Kendal Johnston took second in the high jump. For the boys, Asher Wingenbach took seventh in the 100m. In the 200m, Thomas Goodwin and Wingenbach finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Brycen Brooks finished eighth. The boys 4x100m relay finished fifth. Ashton Mountain took fourth in the long jump and third in the triple jump. At Hickory, Makayla Stutts won the 800m. Reagan Johnston finished right behind in second, while Sophie Becker took eighth. Anne-Catherine Brown finished second in the 1600m. Kendal Johnston took seventh in the 300m hurdles. Lucas Izbicki finished third in the 1600m for the boys. Lochlan Snider-Mills took seventh in the 400m. Will English won the 800m.👟
• Boys lacrosse was swept by Canisius (NY). Varsity fell to the Crusaders, 12-8. Rory Callaghan had three goals and an assist. Dylan Graham, Parker Foster, and Evan Kaizer each scored and had an assist. Joey Bernatowicz and Cam Friedrichsmeyer also scored, while Ty Harrison had an assist. TJ Hiner made six saves. JV lost their game, 9-4. JJ Johnson had a goal and an assist. Friedrichsmeyer, Kaizer and Dom Fornelli each scored a goal. Foster and Sam Leone each had an assist. Max Harrison made five saves. 🥍
• Baseball dropped their game to Meadville, 5-0, in a varsity-only matchup. Derick Friedman had two hits.
• Girls flag football lost a tough one to McDowell, 6-0. 🏈
• LATE THURSDAY SCORES: Boys tennis swept Canisius (NY), 5-0. Ferretti, Moubarak, and Noticewala took their singles matches. • NEWS: During a game this winter, Cathedral Prep Athletic Trainer Anthony Fuhrman helped save a life when an official suffered a medical emergency. On Saturday, Alyssa Cassella, the Northwest Representative for the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society, helped recognize Anthony at HFEC. ⚕️
