Cathedral Preparatory School

Officials from AHN Saint Vincent Hospital and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield recently presented $7,000 to Cathedral Preparatory School to fund the school’s MedPath program. The MedPath program is designed to provide students who have a strong interest in the medical sciences an opportunity to explore the career field and a higher level of preparation in the process of achieving their future goals. Preparations are coming together for our Christmas dinner this Sunday. Thanks to the generosity of our students and families, we collected $500 more than our typical dress down collection amount for the Christmas dinners/gifts. We also had many generous families reach out to buy gifts for the children we’ll be serving at Community Shelter Services on Sunday. We will be helping with two dinners Sunday. First, serving dinner for the residents at Community Shelter Services, and then working the weekly Sunday Supper at First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. As we prepare to serve and interact with those who are in need this weekend, we ask for continued prayers for the homeless and those struggling this holiday season in our community! #Prep #Service #Community 🎄

Ms. Kabasinski’s Forensics students were invited to the Forensic Investigation Center at Gannon yesterday. They spent the day with Dr. Theodore Yeshion, Gannon’s forensic scientist and professor of Criminal Justice and Criminalistics. He gave them a tour of the center and students were able to see many of the things they have talked about in class, including a comparison microscope, polygraph machine, mock crime scenes, electronic fingerprint machine, and tire/footprint casting. They were able to ask Dr. Yeshion questions about his insight as a forensic scientist and DNA expert. #Prep #Forensics

MedPath students gained valuable insights from Dr. Karen Morahan into the world of nursing. They learned about the exceptional opportunities at UPMC Jameson School of Nursing at UPMC Hamot. From cutting-edge practices to fostering a compassionate patient-centered approach, her talk was nothing short of enlightening! She also shared her experiences in the Air Force, highlighting the discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills gained through service. Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, December 5: • Girls basketball went on the road and swept Warren. In their first game of the season, varsity rolled to a 69-26 win over the Dragons. They stormed out to a 42-16 lead in the first half. Jayden McBride led the Ramblers with 23 points, while Addie Biel finished with 16. McKenna Valone and Natalie Spano each had eight points, while Ava Lucarotti added six. Lena Walz had -six points and 10 rebounds. JVs bounced back to pick up their first win of the year, 52-20. Mady Brzezinski finished with 14 points to lead the way, while Jessica Beveridge had 11. 🏀 • Varsity hockey fell to North Allegheny, 6-1. Ethan Cunningham had the lone goal. 🏒

Outreach Club board members spent some time after school on Friday decorating one of the tiny homes at the Kiwanis Family Village. The Village, part of Community Shelter Services, allows family members to stay together in homes when they might otherwise be separated in the shelter. The idea was student-generated after hearing about the Village. This was done in anticipation of the Christmas Dinner that is this Sunday, December 10! #Prep #OutreachClub #Community 🎄

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Varsity hockey took part in the National Invitational Scholastic Showcase in Jamestown, NY this weekend. The Ramblers finished 2-1. They defeated Culver Academy (IN), 1-0, behind an Ethan Cunningham goal. Tanner Ball won in net. They would then fall to Glenbrook South (IL), 9-2. Braydan McGarry and Hyatt Hetz had goals for Prep. They closed out pool play with a 3-1 win over Medina (OH). Logan Taylor had a pair of goals, while McGarry also scored. 🏒 • Boys freshmen basketball picked up a win in their season opener, besting North Catholic, 44-41. 🏀 • Girls JV basketball took on Magnificat (OH) in their first game of the season. The Ramblers fell to the Blue Streaks in overtime, 43-41. 🏀

Congratulations to Emalie Thomas ’24. She has verbally committed to play college softball next season on scholarship at PennWest Edinboro. She was Prep's starting catcher last season and projects to play there in college. She hit .356, drove in 18, and scored 21 runs. #Prep #RollRamblers #studentAthlete 🥎

Student Council's "No Shave November" contest concluded today! Students were able to purchase beard passes at the end of October, with the proceeds benefiting the Erie Cancer Wellness Center. Dominic Bellotti ’24 took home the “Best Overall Beard” award, while John Santone ’24 won “Best Mustache.” Tyler Haft ’24 won “Longest Individual Hair.” A total of $600 was raised from the contest! #Prep #NoShaveNovember 🧔

Earlier this week, President Kevin Smith was presented a check from Marquette Savings Bank Senior Vice President of Business Development Jon Patsy ’94, Chief Executive Officer John Dill ’81, and Chief Financial Officer Julie Wilson ’84VMA for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program. Cathedral Prep Thanksgiving Break Athletics Roundup: • Football overcame a 14-0 deficit to open their PIAA quarterfinal matchup versus Peters Township, tying the game midway through the second quarter. However, they would not score again in the game, losing to the Indians, 33-14. Suhtaun Lewis scored on the ground, while Luke Costello had one touchdown through the air to Corey Allen. 🏈 • Varsity and JV hockey competed in the Cold Turkey Classic at Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter (OH). Congratulations to Sam Tojaga. The state championship winning coach has been named the PSCA Boys 3A Soccer Coach of the Year. The Ramblers went 19-3-1 this past season, winning the PIAA title in double overtime over Springfield Township. In addition to Coach Tojaga being honored, Noah Handzel ’24 was named All-State as a forward, while Kwame Anim-Somuah ’24 was tabbed All-State as a defender by the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association. #RollRamblers ⚽

Ashton Duchini, Ethan Cunningham, Christopher Bruschi and Nick Pugne also scored. Tanner Ball finished with 33 saves in net. 🏒

Members of the National Art Honor Society decorated their tree yesterday for the annual Festival of Trees! Students have been hard at work creating ornaments and decorations.
