Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • ICYMI: Girls cross country captured their second PIAA title in three years. The Ramblers won the PIAA AA title with 118 points, 33 more than Lewisburg. Anne-Catherine Brown placed eighth to lead the way. Fina Bannister was 12th overall. Makayla Stutts took 23rd, while Zita Scheidel finished 37th. Allison Bender took 38th. Reagan Johnston finished 60th, while Sophie Becker finished 78th overall. For head coach Therese Brown, this marked her fifth state championship in the last 11 years. Three won as Villa Maria Academy, and two as Cathedral Prep. Congratulations to Coach Brown and the team on capping off an incredible season with gold!! 👟🏆 • Paige Patsy and the doubles team of Finleigh Handzel & Sophia Glance competed in the PIAA singles and doubles tournaments in Hershey. They swept all their matches in their respective tournaments before both falling in the semifinals. Patsy would win her third-place match over Hamburg’s Mia Gassert, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0. Handzel/Glance would win their third-place match with a sweep over the tandem from Allentown Central Catholic, 6-2, 6-4. Congratulations Paige, Finleigh, and Sophia! 🎾🥉 • Football lost to DuBois, 45-42, in the PIAA subregional. Davin Friedman went 18-27 for 322 yards and four touchdowns. Corey Allen carried the ball 23 times for 161 yards and a score. He also had four catches for 77 yards. Taijoun Williams had 65 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Griffin Potts hauled in two touchdowns, as did Joe Himes and Matt Oblich. Oblich had six catches for 125 yards. The Ramblers closed out their season with a 7-4 record. 🏈 • James Burkett was the lone Rambler to qualify for the PIAA AA Championship for boys cross country. He finished 43rd in in Hershey. 👟 • Boys water polo competed in the state play-in tournament at North Penn High School. The Ramblers had an opening round win over Springfield, 11-9. Owen Carson had the hat trick. Heath Kreidinger and Callum Snider-Mills had two goals apiece. Other goals came from Colin Troutman, Michael Ferrare, Thomas Fortin, and Josh Bartlett. Dan Kubiak had 4 saves. Their season came to an end with a loss to Souderton, 18-7. 🤽‍♂️ • Girls water polo’s season came to an end with a 13-5 defeat to Springfield in the play-in round of states. Megan Cardella and Alexis Ferrare each scored twice, while Savannah Wierzchowski had the other goal. Bri Ryan made 10 saves in net. 🤽‍♀️

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Thursday, October 31: • Girls volleyball took on Corry in the District 10 AA Championship. The Ramblers battled the Beavers through three sets but fell, 3-0. Kamryn Resurreccion had 30 assists and 12 digs. Carolina Krahe had nine kills and 15 digs. Olivia Hutchinson finished with 10 kills and five digs. Ellen Hutchinson had five kills and 15 digs. Kharhys Nickson had 12 kills, while Paige Patsy had six digs. Mackenzie Moore had19 digs. Even with the loss, the team still advances to the PIAA playoffs. 🏐 • PLAYOFFS TODAY: Best of luck to Paige Patsy and the doubles team of Finleigh Handzel/Sophia Glance. They compete in the PIAA singles and doubles tournaments this weekend in Hershey. 🎾

Recognizing the need in our community, students recently held a sock drive to donate to GECAC’s warming shelter. Student Council also helped raise funds to donate to GECAC to assist in buying warm clothes. #Prep #Service #Community🧦

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Wednesday, October 30: • Congratulations to the girls soccer team! They captured the D-10 AA title with a 3-1 win over Fort LeBoeuf. Olivia Dixon scored a pair of goals, while Makenzie Prather also found the back of the net. CC Cacchione, Jordyn DiRiamo, and Haley Stadler all had assists. It was the 12th overall title for the Victors/Ramblers, and their first title since 2021. Congratulations to Coach Wagner and the team! ⚽🏆 • Boys soccer fell in the D-10 AA Championship to Fairview, 4-3, in a battle. Ethan Cain, James DiSanza, and Brandon Lin all scored for the Ramblers. Dr. Xavier Candela ’11 spoke to MedPath students for the “Lunch and Learn” series about his journey to becoming a plastic surgeon. He spoke fondly about his time at Prep and the teachers that made an impact on his life and career. Dr. Candela earned dual degrees in science and psychology with honors in biomedical engineering at Penn State. He went on to complete his MD, MBA, and MEd, and even traveled to Ghana to work on impactful clinical research projects. He showed pictures of severe trauma, speaking about the importance of making patients feel whole again and being there for them on their worst day. His biggest advice: “Wake up early!” #Prep #MedPath

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, October 29: • Girls volleyball is headed to the D-10 Championship after sweeping Cochranton in the D-10 semifinals, 3-0. Kamryn Resurreccion had 41 assists and 10 digs. Coco Speros had 16 kills and eight digs. Carolina Krahe finished with 14 kills and 13 digs. Mackenzie Moore had 22 digs. Olivia Hutchinson had 12 kills and six blocks, while Paige Patsy and Ellen Hutchinson each had five digs. With their win, the Ramblers secured a spot in the PIAA tournament. 🏐 • Varsity hockey continued their hot start to the season with a 6-3 win over Greater Latrobe. Tucker Kinnear and Chris Bruschi each scored a pair of goals. Charlie McBrier and Ashton Duchini also scored. Mathius Sprickman had five assists. Duchini had a pair, while Vinny Scalise, Garrett Schwartz, Brady Sack, and Kinnear each had an assist. Ian Brown made 25 saves in net. 🏒 • PLAYOFFS TONIGHT: It’s another soccer doubleheader! Jordyn DiRaimo had the game-winner, while Haley Stadler had the assist. Jordan Senz secured the shutout in goal. ⚽ • Boys soccer also advanced to the D-10 Championship with a 5-3 victory in their semifinal matchup against North East. Ethan Cain and Esteban Millet each scored two goals, while Carter Budacki also scored. ⚽ • PLAYOFFS TONIGHT: Girls volleyball is set to take on Cochranton in the D-10 semifinals tonight. Last Thursday, AFJROTC cadets travelled to Meadville Airport to fly with the Civil Air Patrol. Each cadet had 45 minutes of flight time, and one cadet on each of the four flights got the chance to pilot the aircraft for about 20 minutes. It was a great day to see the fall foliage, and an awesome introduction to flight for the motivated AFJROTC cadets! #Prep ✈

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Congratulations to the girls cross country team! They defended their District 10 AA Cross Country Championship with a big performance, winning by 44 points and scoring 41 overall. For the second straight year, Anne-Catherine Brown won the race with a time of 18:32. Fina Bannister was right behind in second. Makayla Stutts took ninth. Reagan Johnston finished 14th, while Allison Bender and Zita Scheidel finished 15th and 16th, respectively. Sophie Becker took 23rd. It was their fifth consecutive victory, and 12th in the last 13 years for the Victors/Ramblers. Congratulations to all! 👟🏆 • Congratulations to the boys water polo team! They captured the Small School State Championship at Upper Merion over the weekend. They began the tournament with a 12-8 win over Upper Perkiomen. Callum Snider-Mills and Owen Carson scored four goals apiece. Colin Troutman, Joseph Mascharka, Heath Kreidinger, and Thomas Fortin all found the mesh. Dan Kubiak and JD Cullen each made four saves. They would claim the title with a triple overtime win over Springfield, 12-11. Snider-Mills scored five goals. Kreidinger scored three times. Carson scored a pair, while Troutman and Ferrare also scored. Kubiak made six saves. National Art Honor Society participated in an afternoon of pumpkin carving and painting last Thursday. Students brought in their pumpkins and worked for hours creating artistic designs and carvings. They also had fun listening to Halloween music and enjoying some tasty treats. The Cathedral Prep Show Choir attended a choir workshop at Allegheny College last week. The day was organized by Dr. James Niblock, director of choirs, and assisted by fellow faculty Dr. Carol Niblock and Molly Moyer. Students learned about voice science, vocal health, voice training, good habits for group singing, and how to prepare for auditions. They were also given a tour of Allegheny’s Fine Arts Department and attended a concert by vocal majors and the Allegheny Choirs. #Prep #ShowChoir 🎶

Yesterday ended up being a perfect day for the annual PowderPuff football game on Friday! It was a battle between the juniors and seniors. In what started out as a back-and-forth game, the seniors would pull away in the second half to avenge their loss last year as juniors! The Cathedral Prep Dance program recently hosted Dr. Christina Brown, a physical therapist from NovaCare in Erie, PA, for an informative and engaging workshop on dance and injury prevention. Dr. Brown, who specializes in physical therapy for dancers and athletes, shared valuable insights on how to stay healthy and avoid common dance injuries. She discussed the importance of proper warm-up techniques, alignment, and body mechanics, while also addressing the role of physical therapy in recovery. In addition to her presentation, Dr. Brown led students through a series of exercises designed to strengthen key muscle groups and improve flexibility, helping to reduce the risk of injury. This hands-on experience gave CP Dance students practical tools to integrate into their daily training, promoting long-term physical health. Congratulations to Allison Bender ’25. She has committed to run both cross country and track & field next season for Colgate University. Allison earned an individual state medal and helped the Ramblers to the cross country state title in 2022, and a state runner-up last season. The Ramblers finished nine strokes behind first place Scranton Prep. Connor Laird shot -1 to lead the way. Cooper Wierzchowski was +2, while Sonny Washburn +7. Joseph Prichard finished +9. Andrew Costello was +11 to round out the scoring.
