World Languages

Cathedral Prep offers courses on French, Latin, and Spanish. Students gain an awareness and appreciation of the global community by developing strong communication skills based on mutual respect and spiritual growth. World Language teachers lead educational trips to Italy, France, and Spain. Students who take upper-level Latin classes can earn college credits through the College in High School program of the University of Pittsburgh.

Furthermore, in accordance with developing men in spirit, mind, and body the language department emphasizes the origins and presence of our Christian faith in the target language nations.

The language department offers four years in all languages with the first and second years levels divided into HONORS and ACADEMICS. The third and fourth years are HONORS level courses.

Students are encouraged to enjoy language and culture beyond what they learn in the classroom. The French/Latin club sponsors bi-annual trips to Europe. The Spanish club took a group of students to do mission work in the Dominican Republic in 2018.

Department highlights include:

* Cathedral Prep has established a comprehensive ESL program because of our international student exchange.

*Bi-annual trips, led by our teachers, to other countries provide our students with a global awareness and a historical significance of our target languages.

*Tutoring is available for students who may have difficulty with language learning.
