Social Studies
Take one step into Cathedral Prep, and it's hard not to appreciate that we are a school with a sense of history.
We recognize that the study of history and social sciences involves far more than just memorizing dates and facts. Students are challenged to engage the lessons of the past and apply their knowledge to contemporary issues. Students are actively involved in the classroom analyzing primary source materials, holding debates, presenting research, or working collaboratively on projects using the latest technology.
Taking full advantage of our location in Erie, PA, students in our history courses also have the opportunity to take courses at nearby Gannon University and earn college social studies credits.
The cornerstone of the Cathedral Prep History Department is a rich and challenging curriculum that stresses critical thinking, research skills, and the communication of ideas through both traditional writing assessments and digital media. In addition to our standard college preparatory track, students at Cathedral Prep also have the opportunity to earn Advanced Placement in history and social science courses in each of their four years.
