1939 – Joan Devine Nolan, April 23, 2025, graduated from St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana, receiving a BA in Home Economics. After graduation from St. Mary’s, she moved to New York City and served as a dietician at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Greenwich Village, where she met the love of her life, Tom Nolan, then a surgical resident at St. Vincent’s.
1944 – Geraldine Krahe Lindsey, March 28, 2025, was a member of Holy Rosary Church. In addition she worked at Dolly Madison Bakery and Marine/PNC Bank for many years.
1945 – Barbara A. Loesch Lockwood, March 15, 2025, was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a former member of the Erie Yacht Club, Lake Shore Country Club, and the Hamot Aid Society.
1948 – Dolores B. Lukasiewicz Vollmer, March 28, 2025, was a graduate of Villa College, class of 1952, where she received a degree in Biochemistry. She worked as a medical technician at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. She authored research papers published in medical journals.
1949 – Mary Ann Jankowski, March 6, 2025, worked as an office manager for the Southland Corporation.
1949 – Sr. Mary Arnold Tann, SSJ, May 5, 2025, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Villa Maria College and an MS degree in guidance from Gannon University. She earned certifications in administration from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and library science from Penn State Erie. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph from St. Andrew Parish in Erie in 1952 and made her final profession in 1958. Her ministry in education includes 30 years as a teacher at several diocesan schools, including Blessed Sacrament, Villa Maria Elementary, St. Peter's, Our Lady of Peace, and St. Ann Schools in Erie; St. Bernard School in Bradford, PA, and as principal at Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Peace. In addition, she was an administrator in the Diocese of Erie's Office of Education for 24 years, where she served as Director of Teacher Personnel, Superintendent of Schools, and Associate Vicar for Education. She received the Gannon University Distinguished Alumni Award, and Pope John Paul II awarded her the pontifical honor Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice. Following her retirement, she volunteered at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie.
1952 – Joann Mangini Munch, May 30, 2025, and her husband Bill started and were co-owners and operators of Munch Fisheries in Fairview for many years. She was also a professional cook. After moving to Florida, she was employed by the Charlotte County School Board as a cafeteria cook for East Elementary School for 17 years and was a member of the Florida Food Service Association.
1953 – Sr. Marilyn Zimmerman, SSJ, June 9, 2025, earned a B.S. in Education from Villa Maria College, Erie, in 1963. As a spiritual director, she was trained in Ignatian Spirituality at the Romero Center of Detroit, Michigan. She received an M.Ed. in guidance/counseling from Gannon University in 1968 and did postgraduate training as a Gestalt therapist at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, Ohio, from 1994 to 1998. Sister Marilyn's ministries included teaching, counseling, pastoral ministry, spiritual direction, and retreat work. She taught at Holy Spirit School, Columbus, Ohio; Holy Rosary, Johnsonburg; and Villa Maria Elementary and Blessed Sacrament Schools in Erie. She was Director of Admissions and Campus Ministry at Villa Maria College, Erie. After Vatican II expanded ministry opportunities in the Church, Sister Marilyn felt called to address the plight and needs of women. As a Hotline volunteer, she realized a great need for shelter for women and children. In 1973, she began Community House transitional housing for women and children in Erie. Community House continues operations today as part of Gaudenzia. Sister Marilyn later spent four years committed to the people of the Amazon, in Brazil, and to pastoral ministry at St. Andrew Parish, Erie. She also ministered as a counselor, spiritual director, and retreat director at Ecclesia Center in Girard, Pennsylvania, and in private spiritual direction practice. In 1996, she was recognized as Gannon University Alumna of the Year.
1955 – Mary E. Williams Demyanovich, May 7, 2025, was a graduate of St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at St. Vincent Hospital for over 20 years as a nurse in the operating room until her retirement in 2000. She then decided to devote much of her time as a volunteer. She and her fellow Villa ¨club girls¨ worked at Sister Gus’ Kids Café, as well as St. Clare’s Clothing Store at St. Joseph Church. She also volunteered to give flu shots, work the polls, and last, but not least, help her beloved parish, St. Patrick Church, at the Erie Irish Festival every September.
1955 – Mary A. Gusky Franz, January 5, 2025, rose to the occasion of being a military wife. She was devoted to her family. She was actively involved in all her children's activities. She loved family gatherings, especially when all the children were home. She was always there for her family; if anyone needed her, she was there before they hung up the phone. She enjoyed sewing and taught sewing lessons while the family was stationed in Alaska. Her sewing skills were put to good use when her granddaughter and daughter encouraged her to volunteer in the costume shop at Topeka Civic Theatre, where the two of them were involved.
1956 – Carol M. Keller Koebe, January 28, 2025, received a master’s degree in education from Edinboro College and was an elementary school teacher for 30 years with the Erie School District.
1957 – Patricia A. Camp Barger, January 26, 2025, studied music for nearly 10 years throughout her schooling and was especially proud of her piano recital at Villa Maria Conservatory as a senior in high school. Her recital program included works of Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin. She attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Post education, Pat gave personal in-home piano and organ lessons, as well as maintained her musical talent at home and for a time served as the organist for the St. Jude the Apostle Church choir.
1958 – Mayphine “Midge” Hilbert Klebes, April 3, 2025, completed her education at St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She served as a registered nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital, the Visiting Nurses Association of Erie County, various other healthcare facilities in the Erie region, and was the director of nursing at Rondale Nursing Home.

1960 – Mary G. Harmle, May 5, 2025, moved from Erie to San Diego, California shortly after graduating. There, she began her lifelong career in accounting at various automotive dealerships. She moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and later planted herself in Heyburn, Idaho to help care for her dear friend Gale Croft's parents. Mary was an active volunteer at Cassia Regional Hospital where she served at the information desk. She held many of the leadership roles in the volunteer organization. She was also honored as “Volunteer of the Year.”
1961 – Carole A. Falandys Piechotka, May 10, 2025, furthered her education, graduating from Penn State the Behrend College with a degree in Business Administration. During her working years she worked in the accounting department at Assembly Machines and finished her career in the Juvenile Probation office at the Erie County Courthouse.
1962 – Susan E. Miller Waidley Wells, March 2, 2025, worked as a waitress for many years at her family-owned Ernie’s Restaurant, Fergie’s, and Takis.
1963 – Carol M. Buttice McElhinny, June 5, 2025, worked at Hallmark prior to retiring. She was always on the move enjoying live music, going downtown, and traveling all over the world, including Florida, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, and the Olympics.
1965 – Maureen A. Canfield Altman, April 6, 2025, graduated from Orra Jean Cosmetology School. She worked at the Barber National Institute as a caregiver and later as a domiciliary care provider for Melanie and Joanie.
1965 – Loretta Biel Crino Smith, December 23, 2024.
1967 – Catherine A. Shea Bebko, May 12. 2025, was a graduate of St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1970. She went on to work at St. Vincent Hospital as an ER registered nurse. Growing up, Cathy loved dancing and performing in school plays and was an avid reader.
1969 – Mary Lee R. Bliley, April 6, 2025, furthered her education at Gannon College, receiving her master’s degree in Guidance Counseling in 1976. She worked as a psychiatric social worker at Hamot Hospital until the late 1980’s, then moved to Bradenton, FL to work as a social worker in hospice until her retirement in 2003.
1969 – Denis D. Drongosky Schoenfeldt, May 31, 2025, enrolled in Pharmacy School at the University of Pittsburgh. She was employed at Meadville Medical Center as a pharmacist for 35 years before retiring in 2016.
1969 – Karen Y. Dermanuel Stazer, February 14, 2025, earning a degree in Social Work from Gannon University. Following college, she served in the Air Force, demonstrating her lifelong dedication to helping others. Karen's compassion and bravery were evident throughout her life. In 1977, she played a heroic role in rescuing victims of the devastating Johnstown flood in Pennsylvania. She personally helped dig people out of a massive mudslide, saving many lives with her selfless actions. While living in Florida during the early 1980s, she worked as a social worker before returning to Erie. There, she built a career as a medical transcriptionist at Erie Insurance and Hamot Medical Center until her retirement.
1971 – Deborah L. Kubas Christensen, May 10, 2025, worked for several medical offices prior to her retirement. She was a founding partner in Club Soda in Fort Wayne, IN.
1971 – Janet L. Esser, May 22, 2025, graduated from Villa Maria College and Edinboro University with a master’s degree in education. She loved working as a teacher and taught at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School starting in 1975 and retired from Our Lady of Peace School in 2020. During her summers she worked on Erie’s waterfront at Bayshore Marine, the Carol Ann yacht and Rum Runners from 1975-1990.
1992 – Kara S. Anderson Michaelson, March 15, 2025, loved so many things and had lots of passions.
2002 – Gretchen Dahlkemper, February 7, 2025, attended Penn State University, graduating from University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. She worked with the Clean Air Council, Mom's Clean Air Force (National Field Director), Environmental Defense Fund (Director of Special Projects), and Clean Air Moms Action. Most recently, she was president of Dahlkemper Strategies, assisting others in combatting the effects of climate change. She was also on the board of Linked By Pink.
2003 – Laura L. Nicastro, February 23, 2025, found joy in the simple yet profound moments of life—cherishing time spent with family, friends, and most especially her beloved dog, Rex, whom she affectionately called her “little boy.” Her passion for animals was reflected in her commitment to nurturing and providing many with a safe and loving home.
2004 – Kaitlin J. Weber, May 3, 2025, attended John Carroll University where she was part of the rowing team. Kaitlin loved being a homebody; spending time with her wife Stephanie and friends around the fire-pit, taking in hockey games (enthusiastically cheering during the player fights), and collecting exotic variations of hot sauces.
2004 – Justin G. Wood, May 25, 2025, worked for many years at Allburn Florist, where he was known for his charm, humor, and tendency to run a little late—but always arrived with a smile. He was recently employed in the maintenance department at LECOM, where he continued to bring his steady work ethic and quiet good nature.
