Box Village is a hunger and homelessness awareness movement that is done by different schools, churches, and organizations to raise awareness of the impact of these situations on the population of our community. Box Village is a gathering of people giving up EVERYTHING for one night and living as a small "community" as if this was their daily living.
Box Village participants will arrive at Saturday, February 24 at 3:00pm and remain on the premises of Villa Maria Academy until Sunday, February 25 at 9:00 a.m.
Over 35 Villa students are set to participate. The students are not permitted any electronics and food will not be provided during their time in the village. The girls will also be attending Masses at St. Jude on Saturday night and Sunday to collect donations for Erie DAWN. Erie DAWN is a transitional housing program for homeless women and children run by the Benedictine Sisters, Sisters of Mercy and the Sisters of St. Joseph. While not outside the students will be attending adoration or working on various service projects inside the school.
