Head Track Coach
This is Coach Palmer's seventh year as the head Track and Field coach for Prep and Villa. He is extremely excited continue the success that the team had in his first three year at Prep and Villa, and to be working with such talented and hardworking student athletes. In his first two years, Prep and Villa both won District 10 Championship and Villa placed third and fourth in the State. As well as leading the team as head coach, Coach Palmer also coaches the long and triple jumps as well as the 4x100 Relay. In 2016 the Villa 4x100 meter relay set a school record, district record, and placed first in the state. During his short tenure, his Villa long jumper set the school record. Prior to coaching at Prep and Villa, Coach Palmer has coached for 19 years in the General McLane School District, where he started as the assistant long and triple jump coach. In 1999 he was promoted to the position of head coach of both the boys and girls programs. As head coach, he took both programs to new levels. In 2004, Coach Palmer's boys’ team won its first ever Erie County League Championship, and the school's first AAA D10 title in Track and Field. His boys’ team also won the Class AA D10 championship in 2010. His girls’ team won the Erie County League Championship every year he was the head coach until the league ended in 2004. His girls’ team won the Class AAA D10 title in 2006. Coach Palmer has coached over 45 D10 champions and over 35 state medalists. Coach Palmer went to McDowell High School where here excelled in both Football and Track and Field. He was captain of the football team as well as a wide receiver and defensive back. On the track team he competed in the 100 meter dash, 4x100 meter relay, long jumped and triple jump. He also was the lead-off for the 4x100 meter team, which held the school record for a number of years. In college, Coach Palmer, played defensive back for Mercyhurst University. He graduated from Mercyhurst with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Theology. He continued his education at Gannon where he received his Master's in Pastoral Ministry. Coach Palmer works as a Realtor for Howard Hanna and as the Youth Minister at St. George Church in Erie. Coach Palmer has been married to his wife, Peggy, for 18 years. Together they have 6 children: Haley, Hannah, Hayden, Halaina, Henry, and Hadley. His children attend Villa Maria and St. Jude School. The Palmer's are active members of St Andrew's Parish.
