8th Grade Honors Programs
Eligible students in 8th grade can take freshmen level Math and Science courses at Cathedral Prep or Villa Maria Academy. Courses will count for grade school graduation requirements and high school credit and will position students on an accelerated academic track to take Advanced Placement, Gannon University, and University of Pittsburgh courses as a junior and senior in high school.
Students must maintain a “B” average or better in the course(s) they wish to take, score in the top 35% of the Diocese on the Stanford (or standardized equivalent) and have the recommendation of the grade school Principal. Any questions regarding eligibility should be directed to the grade school Principal.
Students may select to take both Math and Science courses. Both courses are Honors level. Students will be issued an iPad for use in all courses.
The tuition for 2019-2020 is $300 for up to two courses and the issuance of an iPad.
Questions regarding courses, curriculum, tuition, etc. can be directed to William Pituch, Vice President of Academics and Student Affairs, at Cathedral Prep (814-453-7737 ext. 2224) or at Villa (814-838-2061 ext.3224). Questions regarding eligibility or participation should be directed to the grade school Principal.
Cathedral Preparatory School and Villa Maria Academy are college preparatory secondary schools operated under the authority of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, and fully accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Students who are not Catholic are welcome to attend and participate fully in the Eighth Grade Honors Program.
